We’re reviewing all the audition information, and we should have callbacks posted shortly.
Check back this evening….
We’re now a lot closer to a full cast. 24 actors read for our 16 roles (miscounted, originally), and there are going to be some interesting choices when all is said and done.
Callbacks are scheduled for Thursday, the 30th. Those being cast without callbacks will still be called/emailed tomorrow. Only two parts are pending a decision (too many auditions, and a late callback to decide the situation), but we should have answers for everyone by the end of the week.
We are still seeing designers (Set, Costume) and props master, but I am proceeding as if I will take these lead roles, at least until someone else indicates interest.
Thanks, everyone for your support! It’s going to be a roller coaster ride, and looks like it will be a heck of a good show at this point.
More soon!

Be there or be elsewhere!
This is a friendly reminder – our next production/planning meeting is this coming weekend.
We’ll be discussing (in no order):
Auditions for Six Characters
Rehearsal schedule/locations
Design team
Future Plans

Just updated the web version of the script, with technical adjustments to remove mentions of scenery we have NO CHANCE of using in our space. Not a lot of edits, but still. And I reformatted the whole script so that the character appears left and the dialogue is now right. Improved the space by a whole page. Whoopee.
Next on the hit parade, identifying the actual portions of the script I want to use for auditions. I’ll have that done this weekend/early next week.
I’ve also hauled out my copy of Hodge’s Play Directing for a refresher course in the stuff I think I already know. I’d forgotten how dense that book actually is. Not a lot of personal notes in it, either, and my directing teacher died (suddenly) some 10 years ago or so, and that make him kinda unavailable for comment. Wish I could invite him or my old acting teacher to the show. I’d love to show off…
There’s other work done, too – press releases went out to 12 news sources yesterday. Hoping it wasn’t a day late, dollar short situation.
If you’ve got the time and inclination, and the spatial locality, you should consider printing a copy of the flyer to post where you work, attend church, do laundry, whatever. I’m doing what I can, but hauling small children around while making the rounds to the local community centers is proving tougher than I thought it would be.
Once we’re established, this should be easier, but still…
And finally, I’m starting to move on the incorp thing. Now that the script is done, finishing touches (getting the pieces picked for auditioning) means that I can free up some time to file the actual paperwork. That should happen this coming Tuesday or Wednesday. With luck, we’ll have our incorp. in our hands before the lights go down this fall.
Progress is good!
Carry on!!!

This version replaces the one I posted last night. It had too much info on it, and it wasn’t as well laid out.
Please feel free to circulate as necessary!
Hope to see some of you there!
Hi, folks!
I heard back from Mary Mitchell-Donahue at Greenbelt Arts Center. She said we were just waiting for Sam French to get back to us.
I hadn’t heard anything, and being the patient soul I am (heh), I couldn’t wait anymore, and I called Sam French myself. I have a verbal approval from them, pending the receipt of our faxed request (to replace the email form version).
So, as far as I’m concerned, we’re there!
I’ve got a press release sitting on my computer, waiting for review and input. As soon as it returns, I’ll be faxing the release to a whole bunch of places, including at least 10 newspapers.
In the meantime, please put the following dates into your calendar and pass the word around! You are free to forward this email message as necessary.

Greenbelt Arts Center is GO!!!
So, we now have dates. We just need the authorization.

Calling Sam French again momentarily!
[edited not five minutes later…]
And now, I can say these dates are FIRM!
Please start spreading the word…
YAY!!!
I’ve been promising an update for at least a week, and here it is:
We have met with the Greenbelt Arts Center. Talk happened. Tours happened. Details were exchanged. And while I still don’t have a piece of paper in my hands, we are now a WHOLE LOT closer to an actual, concrete, scheduled plan!
What I have done, besides meeting with the facilities manager there, is to file for the rights to perform Six Characters. No word yet (I’m holding my breath, but not much), but then, the paper will go to GAC, not to us, because that’s the address of the performance space. So, I imagine that Mary will call me or send email as soon as she sees paper on the subject. And in the meantime, I’m wrapping up loose ends like there’s no tomorrow, because I want to clear the decks.
Tentative audition dates: June 26-28 or thereabouts at GAC. Performance dates (even more tentative, pending actual permission to perform): the last two weekends in September, with three performances each weekend.
Yeah, I know that’s also when the MD Renfaire takes place, but hopefully that won’t cramp people’s style when we get there.
I’d pass the dates around to everyone now, but for the fact that the GAC needs to get our committment down in writing, which hasn’t happened yet.
I also learned something else: They have two additional weekend slots potentially available. First would be teens weekend of November. Second, teens weekend of December. I am considering throwing open the doors to proposals for one-two performance projects. Quickies, just to keep our name fresh, and to tread water for spring. So, any thoughts on the subject?*
*No Shame Theatre is one very good possibility. A staged reading of A Christmas Carol or other appropriately wintry piece in December is another possibility.
There are more details, but these are the biggies. And I’ve looked at the space, and now have a much better idea of how we’re going to stage this thing, but getting a stage manager and designers on board soon would be a good thing.
Keep your eyes open for more announcements as they come!
Today, I dropped off the adjusted script (after I adjusted it once more for font size, saving three pieces of paper).
If I’d gotten my act together, I could even have seen the inside of the theatre, but that doesn’t matter much because it’s ALL good!
Tentative dates (subject to all manner of changes):
Auditions: June 26/27/28 at 7:30pm (at the Greenbelt Arts Center, because *they* think it’s a good idea(?!?))
Performances: Some configuration of Sept. 23/24/25 and 29/30/Oct 1
Pending all sorts of finalizations, but this looks like the best shot. And the timing couldn’t be better. It seems two things they intended to produce fell through, and we’d be filling one of the spots left open as a result.
So.
We really need to meet. David is the ONLY one besides Gale who got back to me (she doesn’t have specific dates – just “sooner is better”). I would really like to meet before auditions.
Time to throw open the proverbial doors and announce to the world!
YAY!!!
